Who influenced me…

I am sure most of you reading this blog are bloggers yourself or you simply enjoy writing. Hold back, think for a second why do you love writing or why did you start writing. Come on! There should be something that should have inspired you or someone who has motivated you. What’s your story?

Let me share mine.

I don’t catch cues in the first time. Everything in my life happens over a period of time. It all started when I was in college and we were asked to choose an elective course. I had my eyes on a media related course with accounting as my backup option(in case media was not available, seats get full). But its what god proposes, at the end which matters. I was late for my selection and hence I was given “journalism” as very few had chosen to study this.

To my suprise, this course brought the writer out of me. I enjoyed capturing my thoughts and story with words and painting them in my style. As a hobby, I had started writing articles on subjective topics occasionally. And slowly it reduced as I did not have an audience. It was 3 years later in my french class I met someone who inspired me to start writing and starting my own blog.:)

The same person has been my inspiration this year. Had I not met him, I wouldn’t have started this blog “cooking life”. And only I know how much I have grown with this blog and with all your opinions.

How I met him, well he was a classmate of mine in my French institute. His love for language and reading had let him take particular interest in french and it’s literature. He is a writer by profession and loves reading. The first time I had seen him, I remember he was busy with his kindle. After introduction and helloing we started having interesting conversations. Conversations turned into debates then arguments. We had lot of discussions, which we certainly enjoyed. One day,I told him how I was interested in writing and I wished to enroll on a course. From his experiences he suggested I start writing. “Writing is an art, it is hidden inside, you cannot be taught necessarily”, was what he had told me. I got back home signed up in wordpresss and from there my journey began as a blogger/writer.

What’s your story?

On your feet

Situation of my life:

I belong to a conservative family/ society were the actions of women are generally deemed by her father or brother. However I have grown to be an independent person with my own thoughts and opinions. My society believes that women are to be taken care of, hence she ought to enjoy what is earned by the men of her family. Since childhood I have been a passionate person wanting to seek knowledge and grow into a respectable woman. On the contrary women I know, love shopping, dressing up, whiling away time and enjoy cooking for their loved ones. I am of a strong belief, that time spent of cooking everyday is a waste of time.We do not live to eat, but the contrary. These women have looked at me as the odd one out because I would choose to struggle and put up with hurdles and do the exact opposite of what these women do. Majority of my time has gone by me arguing with my family about my interests and wants.I believe in what I do. Often, I think WHY?

What is expected?

Women are expected to be humble and compassionate. To be a loving daughter, sister, grand-daughter. Random families with similar or better status ask for the girls in marriage to their sons & grandsons. After a council, the men from the family decide and and she is wedded. It may sound depressing, trust me the girls enjoy the big fat lavish weddings, adorned with jewels and bright colors moving to a family which is similar or mostly better than her family in financial status. The girl is expected to be the happiest person, as she has just accomplished obtaining a good and smart groom.

After marriage, deemed by her husbands decisions and leaning on husband at very aspect of life. Men go out to work while women wait for them to return. Full day is spent in daily chores, cleaning, cooking. For generations this has been the trend.

Why Am I rejected?

My friends and family say :”Idiot, Why do have to do it? Sit back relax and enjoy”. If you step out and do what they do, you guys become equal. Oh no that is not right for a balanced family. Education always rises a persons abilities and earns respect. The girl should ideally be respected but it’s looked down at. It’s a nightmare if the girl is educated more than the guy. Since childhood I was always told one should do their own work. I am not sure why suddenly the rules have changed.

Well none of this has stopped me, I believe in what I do. Parents who agree cannot support, fearing rejection from society.Sometimes having your voice can become an issue. But stand on your own, never fear, people may accept you or they may not.But how can one live with themselves without self acceptance?

Weekend Inspiration #2 Time of the Year…

It’s the midst of the month

But it’s the end of the year.

It’s the time to wind up,

But it’s the time to plan fresh.

It’s the time of the year, I love the most

But it’s the time when I look back

and thank god, that it is over….

It was just a walk in the eve,

when thoughts gushed my mind

and yet another year comes to an end

but I still did not find..

It was a distant train whistling

which brought home the loved ones,

while the kitchen’s are cooking cakes and buns.

Everything is closing and calmness prevails

yet the inquisitive mind looks for details..

Kids are playing basket ball

but grown-ups are wanting to enjoy their alcohol.

The stage is being set and lights are ready to be on

cheer-up and walk the road, as life goes on….
